This is fun and simple project. Its nice to throw in your purse or diaper bag so you have something to keep the kiddos entertained.
Front piece 13″x11″
Inside piece 13″x11″
Pocket piece 13″x4.5″
Medium weight interfacing 13″x11″
Fusible Fleece 13″x11″
Black felt 4″x13″
Yellow (or any color) felt
9″ of 1/4″ elastic
4″ of Velcro (male and female)
Thread to match
Tailors chalk or marking tool
This project is done with 1/2″ seam allowance.
After cutting all your pieces to the correct measurements iron your fusible fleece to the back of the FRONT piece.
Take your pocket piece an iron it in half length wise.
(I made my pocket out of 2 different pieces of fabric.)
Place Velcro 1.5″ up from the middle of the pocket and pin.
Sew in place.
Place your inside piece on top of your interfacing and pin together all the way around it.
Measure up 1.5″ and place other Velcro strip in the middle. Pin in place.
Place pocket on this inside fabric at the opposite end of the Velcro. Pin in place.
Find the middle of your pocket and mark it.
Make a mark every 2″ on either side of the middle mark.
Draw straight lines on those marks all the way to the top of the fabric. You should have drawn 4 lines. This should make it so you have 6 pockets. You don’t need to mark the end ones. Those will close up later.
Starting in the middle sew all the lines from the top to the bottom. Making sure to back stitch at the top and bottom.
Find the middle on the short sides and mark. Draw a straight line from end to end.
Cut your black felt 3″x12″. Cut your yellow (or whatever color you chose. Mine is green) into 1/4″ x 2″ pieces. I cut 4 pieces, you can do as many or as little as you want.
Place the yellow in the black how you like them and sew into place.
Place the black piece above pocket on the line you drew and just below the upper Velcro. Pin in place.
Place top piece on top of pocket piece with right sides touching. Pin in place.
Mark a spot on the bottom for your 3″ opening.
Take your elastic piece fold in half and place on one side of the carrier in between the layers in the middle of the pocket.
Sew around all 4 edges making sure that you leave open your 3″ opening.
Clip corners and turn. Use a pin to pull corners out. Press flat.
Sew as close to bottom edge as you can closing up the 3″ opening.
Put your cars in their pockets and roll it up.
