Since I am so new to the art of pieced quilting and binding I decided to enroll in a beginning quilting class. I took the class with my mom and sister in law Britney. The class was so much fun. My teachers name was Monica and she was awesome. I learned so much over the 3 weeks I took this class. It was every Thursday night for three weeks.
The first week we covered cutting, laying the quilt out, sewing rows and the columns. I thought that I pretty much had this down before the class; but Monica had a lot of good tips. She introduced me to the 1/4″ foot which I love! I promptly went out and bought one. I got a great deal on a generic one that has a little guide on it. This helps a lot with the tiny 1/4″ seams you do when quilting.

The second week we sewed our borders on. I learned that I had been doing that completely wrong. We also made the quilt sandwich (backing, batting and top), and basted the quilt together. Our homework that week was to quilt the quilt. It was the first time I had ever used my walking foot and done machine quilting. I was a little nervous, but it was soooooooooooo easy. We did cross-hatching and I loved it!
The last night we covered binding. I have only ever done bindidng on one other quilt and I did it with my machine. I wasn’t a huge fan of how it turned out. I hated hand sewing, so I was excited to learn some tips on how to do this. It was my sister in law not my teacher who actually helped with this. She taught me how to do a blind stitch by hand and I am getting pretty fast at it.

I think I might redo my front room
these colors to match the quilt!
I am so happy I took this class. I learned so much. And I think that my quilt turned out so cute!!!!! I have singed up for some additional classes later on this summer and can’t wait for them to start!!
