I realize that its not July yet, but since this is a patriotic themed towel I wanted you to be able to make it in time for the 4th of July. I am going to give you some very basic information on how to do raw edge applique. I stress that it is very BASIC. If you get confused or have any questions just let me know I will try my best to help you complete your project.
So far these are my favorite “month” towels that I have made. I love the colors. I used some fat quarters from the the bundle I had of Stars & Stripes by Riley Blake. I have had this bundle for a while and been looking for a good project to use it on. So once again I used some of my “stash” for a project.
Well then lets get started.
Hand towels 1-2 (I get my tea towels from a local quilt shop. You can get them at most craft stores)
1/3 yard Heat n Bond Lite
Various scraps of fabrics measuring at least 5″x5″ (I did 6 different colors but you can have your colors repeat if you want)
Basic sewing kit
|This is my backwards “s”.|
Next you need to trace them on to your Heat n Bond. MAKE SURE YOU REVERSE OR MIRROR THE “S” OR IT WILL END UP BACKWARDS. This is very important. I forgot to do it and ended up with a backwards “s” and had to remake it. I traced the star 3 times, but you can do less or more if you want.
Then cut out on the lines that you traced onto the Heat n Bond.
On my stars I did a really simple blanket stitch that my machine has on it.
That’s it! Now you have 2 fantastic towels to show off at your 4th of July festivities!
