We need to make 4 half square triangles per block. To do this take your 2 cream squares that are 4 1/2″ by 4 1/2″ and draw a line on the diagonal from corner to corner on the WRONG side of your fabric. I used a marking pen to do this.
Take one print 4 1/2″ square and one cream with the drawn on line and lay on top of each RST.
Sew a line a 1/4″ away from the line on both sides of the line.
Cut in the drawn line.
Square up your quarter square triangle block to 3 1/2″ by 3 1/2″.
Press all 4 blocks open. Press towards the print.
Now to make the stem block.
Cut your 4 1/2″ cream block in half on the diaganol.
Place the 1″ by 5″ piece on top of one cream triangle RST. Sew down the long side with a 1/4″ seam.
Press to print.
Repeat with the other side.
Lay blocks out to form a leaf. Sew together in rows and then sew your rows together. Repeat to make 4 leaf blocks.
Sashing and Inner Borders:
From your cream fabric cut
2 strips at 1 1/2″ by 9 1/2″
3 Strips at 1 1/2″ by 19 1/2″
2 strips at 1 1/2″ by 21 1/2″
Lay your blocks out how you want them to go
Sew one of the 1 1/2″ by 9 1/2″ strip to one side of one of your leaf blocks.
Then sew another leaf block to the other side of your cream strip.
Repeat with your last 2 leaf blocks.
Sew a 1 1/2″ by 19 1/2″ strip to the bottom of one of your leaf sets.
Connect the other set of the blocks to the long strip.
Sew the last two 1 1/2″ by 19 1/2″ strips to the top and bottom of your quilt block.
Then sew your 1 1/2″ by 21 1/2″ strips to the sides of the quilt block.
From your inner border cut 2 strips at 1 1/2″ by 21 1/2″ and sew to the 2 sides.
Then cut 2 strips at 1 1/2″ by 23 1/2″ and sew to the other 2 sides.
From border fabric cut 2 strips at 3 1/2″ by 23 1/2″ and sew to 2 of the sides.
Cut 2 more strips and 3 1/2″ by 29 1/2″ and sew to the other 2 sides.
Baste and quilt as desired.
From your binding fabric cut 4 strips at 2 1/4″ and connect them together on the bias. Attach binding using your favorite binding technique.
