Since I have been in a funk since the new year started and haven’t sewn much I thought I would share with you guys some of quilts that are in my “to be quilted” pile. Then as I was looking at the pile I realized just how many I have. And I haven’t shared the majority of them with you folks. This gave me an idea. To Be Quilted Tuesday. So every Tuesday (or maybe every other Tuesday) I am going to share with you a quilt from my stack. Maybe this will help motivate me to get them quilted.
Now this sounded like a great idea until I realized it is freezing outside and there is no way I am going out there to take pictures. So sorry these aren’t the best pictures. Maybe when it gets quilted I will have better pictures.
For this quilt I used the Double Slice Layer Cake tutorial from Missouri Star Quilt Company. It is a YouTube tutorial and so easy to follow. It tells you how to make it from a Moda layer cake so your quilt will be 6 blocks by 7 blocks. However my layer cake only have 36 squares in it so my quilt is squared; 6 blocks by 6 blocks. But I love it. It is the same block repeated over and over in the quilt. You just rotate it every other one.
Its a lot of fun to make, and guarantee once you make it once you will want to make it again and again. Its a really fast quilt to make so it perfect for a gift and with only a layer cake and a little bit of yardage for borders its easy on the pocket book
The collection I used is Jungle Jive by Benartex. My boys gave me the layer cake for my birthday so that makes this quilt even more special to me. I recently bought the back for it at a clearance sale at my LQS. Can’t beat $4.00/yrd. I actually bought a couple backs and some other yardage to make a quilt or 2. Okay, maybe 3.
