One of the reasons that I was super excited to have a girl is because I could make dresses. Growing up my mom always made my dresses and I loved it. Even now most of my dresses are made. I am pretty tall so I have a hard time finding dresses that are long enough so I prefer to make them.
Anyway, when I was pregnant with Hailey I first discovered Olive Ann patterns and I had to have some. Even though Hailey won’t fit in them for about another year from now.
The pattern designs are so cute and fun. I love how modern they are; yet classic. Something that you would find in any clothing store.
The first one I made is the Charley dress.
This was by far the easiest dress I have ever made. I have always wanted to make a “bubble” dress but thought it would be hard. But Olive Ann makes it so easy. This pattern literally walks you through the process step by step making it so easy. They do such a great job explaining how to put the dress together. This is a perfect pattern for beginners and a fun fast project for the more advanced sewer. I can’t even begin tell you how much fun this was. Cut to finish this dress took me 3-4 hours. (I had to stop in the middle of it to do mom duties)
My husband picked out the fabric for this dress and I LOVE it. I have had this batman fabric about 2 years. I was going to make something for the boys but never got around to it. And now I am glad I didn’t it because it made such an adorable dress. The orange stars were also from my stash. They were from the Riley Blake line Pieces of Hope. I can’t wait until Hailey is big enough to wear it.
The second dress I made was The Easy Peazy Pleats dress.
I made this one for my niece who is 6. Isn’t she adorable?!? This pattern took a little more work than the first one. But that is only because I had to do all the pleats. They weren’t hard to make at all. Once again they make the pleat making process so easy. This is another great pattern for beginning sewists. It just took more time. I used a piece from the Riley Blake line Indie Chic for the main pattern and a white Moda for the bottom band.
I had a couple people tell me that the straps on this dress looked like they were hard to make. But its the opposite. They were so EASY!! This dress took me about 5 hours from cut to finish. And it was fun to make. I LOVE the finished project. And so did my niece!! I will be making one for Hailey in the future for sure.
I love that all the patterns come with a pattern to make a matching dress for dolls. How cute is it to have your little girl and her dollie match!!
