Since James has gone back to school and I cut down my hours at the fabric store I have been trying to think of ways to pinch pennies. I have been shopping clearance sales for clothes and toys and I budget like crazy. One thing I have found that really helps save me some major $$$ is making my own laundry soap.
I tried a couple different recipes that didn’t quite work for me. Jack was allergic to the first liquid one that I tried. One of the powdered ones that I tried didn’t get the smell of my boys off the clothes. But this one that I came up with is awesome. And it even gets pee smells out. It is super easy to make. It costs less than $30 to make it. I do about 8 to 9 loads of laundry a week! (It makes me sad just writing that out) This recipe lasts me about 6 months doing that much laundry. So that’s about .15 cents a load!!!
What you need:
*Big box (about 4lbs) Super Washing Baking Soda
*Big box 20 Mule Team Borax
*Big box Baking Soda (about 4 lbs)
* 2-3 bars of Zote soap
*Big tub of Oxi Clean
*Big container of Purex crystals
Using a cheese grater or a food processor shred your bars of soap.
Pour about a 1/3 of each ingredient into the bucket and stir.
Repeat 2 more times. Once I have it all in the bucket I put the lid on and shake it to help mix it all up.
I like to keep the majority of it in the big bucket with a locking lid. I keep a smaller amount in an old laundry soap box. You could also use the Oxi Clean container.
When doing laundry I use 2 TBSP per load of laundry.
I made the label for my soap using PicMonkey.
