If you follow us on Instagram then you know that I was chosen to be on Amanda Herring’s Design Team. (EEEEK!!!!) And I am super stoked to share my first project with you using her beautiful collection Flora and Fawn. For our first project Amanda gave us the theme of Homes. And my first thought was pillows. As you all know I have an obsession with pillows. I just can’t get enough of them! So I decided to make some home pillows for my home.I made the design for the pillows using my Cricut Maker (that I love) and it made the whole process super easy. The Maker comes with a rotary blade that cuts the fabric perfectly. No FRAYING!!!!!! First thing I did was make the design and I sized to fit my pillows. I got my covers from Amazon and they are 18″x18″ so I made my design 14″x14″. You can adjust the size to fit your pillows. It was hard to narrow down the fabrics. They are all so cute. I seriously want to make a quilt with these prints. And I can’t wait to show you what I am making next month. I love the little deer that are on these prints. And those big gorgeous flowers! The colors are so vibrant and cheery. I ironed on Heat ‘n Bond on the back side of the fabrics I picked out and then put the fabric on my cutting mat. It is very important that you put it on the mat so that you see the heat ‘n bond. Fabric side down. Once you have sent your image to be cut make sure you click to MIRROR the imagine. Especially on the quote part or it will be backwards. I use HTV or iron on vinyl for the wording. Put that on your mat shiny side down.Once everything is cut out layer your fabric and press it one layer at a time. Then put it on your pillow. I put my house on first in the middle and then lined up my vinyl center with the house. I used the new Cricut Easy Press to iron on my applique design. The Easy Press is awesome when appliquéing. For the most part you can get your whole design under it and it takes half as long to press. After it was all pressed on I did a simple stitch all the way around the house to help make sure the house stays is place. I love the quote that I put on these pillows. I truly believe that a home should be a place where we encourage our children and make sure they feel safe and loved. The world can be a scary place but if we teach our kids to be kind and respectful people the world will be a better place.
